New reports released through Politico reveal that U.S president Donald Trump is proposing a new plan for low-income families to start receiving food boxes rather than food stamps. It says the box will be available every month and packed with non-perishable food items.
White House OMB Director Mick Mulvaney refer to the boxes as ‘Blue Apron-type program‘ in reference to the meal kit boxes that has likely perceived not to have performed well since its introduction in 2017. The plan is said to save the government money and provide families with more food options than what the food stamps currently used.
This proposal is part of the White House’s fiscal budget for 2019 and ii is meant to replace half of the money families receive from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. America’s Harvest Box, unlike the Blue Apron boxes, will not include meats and vegetables but rather items such as peanut butter, cereal, shelf-stable milk, canned fruits and more.
He added; ‘In terms of how recipients will receive the box, USDA spokesman Tim Murtaugh tells the publication that states would have flexibility when it comes to distribution, the projected savings does not include shipping door-to-door for all recipients involved.’

These boxes of canned food and cheap cereals are really stupid. We don’t need big government telling people what food to eat. They should put these boxes on the menu at the Trump Hotel and let food stamp users do their own shopping.https://t.co/YNISXAIigc via @politico

1. Let's be real y'all, the Trump administration trying to replace food stamps with government delivered food boxes isn't about saving money, It's about taking the dignity away from working class folks. This shit isn't only meant to humiliate, but to also fuck with working class

Every idea out of the Trump administration is a 3rd grade answer to a complex problem. People need food? Send them blue apron style boxes. Immigration problem? Build a wall. They fail to see the underlying complexities, resulting in failure, waste and zeros added to our debt

Trump’s Harvest Box proposal is a pure fuck-you to poor people. Ignoring the reality of food deserts, it perpetuates a myth that those who need nutrition assistance spend it on junk. That may be the entire point, since it’s utterly impractical to execute. https://t.co/eiQGfNXxvx

How are you going to convince me that sending pre-packaged food & non-perishable items in boxes is cheaper than distributing amounts on cards for people to grocery shop for themselves?
