Michael Smith Leaves ESPN’s ‘SportsCenter’ Weeks After Co-Host Jemele Hill

Michael Smith has left his role as ESPN’s SportsCenter 6 p.m. ET host. His departure comes a little more than a month after his former co-host, Jemele Hill, left the show to join ESPN website The Undefeated.
Like his former co host, Jemele, Michael Smith still has years left on his contract with ESPN, so he will likely stay with the network in a different capacity. Though, he is yet to announce where he will be going after leaving SportsCenter,

His decision to leave should not be seen as a shocker. In February, he said the network deliberately “muted” Hill and himself at points on “SC6,” notably after the former made inflammatory comments about President Trump.

“There was a time we weren’t even talking to each other during broadcasts anymore,” he said. “Like no more Michael and Jemele, not less, not here and there. No more Michael and Jemele talking. No more of their commentary. It’s just strictly live shots and analysts. That’s what pissed me off so much.”

According to Andrew Marchand, the most likely replacements for Hill and Smith will be Sage Steele and John Anderson, who are the currentl hosts of SportsCenter at night.
